The Osmogro® Houseplant Watering Solution
The current UK market for cut flowers and indoor plants is worth around £2.2 billion. This is roughly equivalent in value to the UK music industry market. The average person in the UK spends around £8 per year on houseplants compared to ~£30 per person per year across the rest of Europe. Houseplant sales are projected to continue to grow at a steady rate of about 6% per annum. Market research commissioned by the houseplant industry has identified consumers' fears of killing houseplants by incorrect watering practices as the main hindrance to increasing sales.
One of the main conclusions of the horticulture industry Market Research is that enabling consumers to have greater success with houseplants in their homes will lead to more and repeat purchases of plants. Around 75% of UK households have at least one houseplant, the average is ~6 and about twenty five percent have more than twelve houseplants. Furthermore, consumers are willing to pay more for houseplants, seeing them as naturally attractive, healthy, living and valuable commodities. Current trends towards more expensive, exotic, often water-sensitive plants such as orchids and peace lilies, combined with water-conservation issues, highlight the need for a simple and effective houseplant watering solution.
There are many houseplant watering products available but perhaps the most unique and effective is one that uses natural osmosis. Osmogro® self-watering technology uses a special hydrogel membrane to deliver water to plants by osmosis, similar to the way in which plants natuarally transport water through their roots, stems and leaves. The Osmogro® system allows houseplants to draw water through the special gel membrane from an external reservoir and into the plant pot. In this way, plants draw through only the water they need and the reservoir water remains clean and clear. The Osmogro® membrane also acts as a barrier to harmful bacteria and fungi. All that you need to do is keep the reservoir filled, and then leave the rest to the real expert, the plant. The Osmogro® system is also terrific for holiday watering and plants with different watering needs can be kept on the same reservoir such as a windowsill or other gardening tray (or even your sink or bath!).
The award winning Osmogro® system has been successfully and independently tested by growers, retailers and horticultural experts, including BBC Television's The Beechgrove Garden. The comprehensive and controlled tests carried out by the Beechgrove Team, professional houseplant growers and by independent expert horticultural scientists at East Malling Research (EMR) and Horticulture Research International (HRI) demonstrated ease of watering and improved plant lifetimes. Osmogro® increased flowering, ornamental appearance and plant lifetimes by as much as 40% (and often more) in comparision with conventional and capillary watering methods.
Achieving greater success with houseplants will lead to increased purchases and many more plants in our homes, living and working spaces. Correct watering of indoor plants is a universal problem and the Osmogro® self-watering technology may provide the simple, effective and universal solution. Buying, owning and caring for houseplants should be like osmosis; natural and healthy.
